Description

The NAD-RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC) exam is a new paradigm. Many candidates are unfamiliar with the new testing procedures, and are unsure what to expect during the actual exam. This can heighten anxiety, preventing candidates from representing themselves as well as possible.

This workshop will introduce participants to the interview portion of the new NIC exam, presenting a formulaic method for responding to the ethical scenarios. With the extra time this extended session affords, participants will have ample opportunity to practice responding to scenarios with feedback. The eight performance domains will be also be explained so participants are familiar with the rating scales.

While no test content will be shared or discussed, candidates will be able to feel comfortable with testing procedures, and confident about being able to accurately represent themselves.

Topics we will cover

  • An overview of the NIC interview format (You will know what to expect)
  • The NIC interview rating rubric in depth (You will know what to address)
  • A formula with modeling of how to respond to the ethical scenarios (You will know how to respond)
  • Systematic practice responding to ethical scenarios per the interview rating rubric
  • Explanation and examples of the eight performance rating scales

We will meet 9:00-4:00 PM both days for a total of 12 contact hours. That’s 1.2 CEUs in the Professional Studies category requiring some content pre-knowledge.
